Welcome to Women's Wellness Wednesday, with Melissa, brought to you by Northwest Medical Center.
All this month were talking about heart disease and the contributing factors.
Doctor Koshkarian, what are some of the risk factors for heart disease?
Tradition when we think of risk factors as conditions that will raise the likely hood that a person may have a heart attack or heart disease. So we think of them as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, smoking cigarettes and we use to talk about being male as a risk factor, but we don’t think of it that way anymore because women have heart disease as much as men do. They just tend to have it at a somewhat later age, so we combine it and we say men over the age of 45 are at risk or women over the age of 55 are at risk. And those are the main risk factors.
Thank you so much doctor, we appreciate you being on.
