It's REALLY hard for me to not like a Disney movie. I own every single Disney movie ever made on VHS and DVD so when I went to see this Oz the Great and Powerful with so much excitment as a true Disney fan...I was so disappointed.

IMHO (in my humble opinion) if you are planning on taking your child under 7, think again. This movie scared me a few times and I am a "grown-up"...it's a little too scary for kids under 7. It is also very "mature" in a lot of ways. The whole thing plays out like a colorful Jerry Springer show with one disgruntled woman feigning for the attention of a man who is playing the field with everyone and their sister (literally).

Something about James Franco creeps me out when he smiles. I am not sure what it is but he smiles a lot during the film and it's really unsettling. Mila Kunis is beautiful and funny so to try and see her play this very complex role was hard to watch because while she is a great actress, the iconic Wicked Witch of the West cackle...not an Oscar winning moment for her.

The special effects were cute, but way over done. The original Wizard of Oz was made in 1934 with zero computer technology and still made people oooh and ahhh over the special effects. This is a storyland that everyone already knows about...we know about the Emerald City, the Dark Forest and Munchkinland...why not keep it to those places rather than adding all sorts of other odd and not so understanable settings for the movie.

Finally, Michelle William's hair. Talk about unsettling. Disney had a budget of $300 MILLION to make this the best fantasy movie ever...so you think they could have hired someone to make sure you couldnt see her extentions?

That's just my take...you should def see the movie for yourself and be your own critic...and let me know if I'm right about Glinda's hairpiece.
